Vital Records Online

St. Clair County vital records are now available through our only approved internet ordering service, VitalChek Network, Inc

VitalChek orders may be placed 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, but orders will only be processed and mailed Monday thru Friday (excluding holidays) between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m

The St. Clair County Clerk does not accept credit cards or online orders; however, for your convenience, you can process online requests through an independent company that we have partnered with to provide  you this service; VitalChek Network Inc. VitalChek can be reached through its website www.vitalchek.com. An additional fee is charged by VitalChek for using this service, and all major credit cards are accepted, including American Express®, Discover®, MasterCard®,  or Visa®.

Other internet vendors are not authorized by the St. Clair County Clerk and may charge additional fees without providing state-approved services. Neither the St. Clair County Clerk nor VitalChek have control over the services and fees other Internet vendors offer and charge, nor can we guarantee the confidentiality of any vital record data provided to vendors other  than VitalChek

Birth & Death Records

Certified copies of birth and death records for persons who were born or who died in St. Clair County from 1878 to the present for death records, and from 1874 to the present for birth records, are issued, maintained and when appropriate, provided.  Birth certificates certify the date and place of a person's birth and parentage.  Death certificates certify the date, place, and cause of death.  Such documents are often required for identification or to establish eligibility for certain services or benefits. 

Eligibility:

  • Birth Certificates - may be obtained by individuals born in St. Clair County, their parents, or their legal representative.
  • Requester must be over 18 years of age.
  • Death Certificates - Legal representative or family member

Application:

You may write or come into our Office.

Birth Certificates - You'll need to provide:

  • The full birth name 
  • Date of birth, 
  • Mother's maiden name, and, 
  • Father's name.

Death Certificates - You'll need to provide:

  • The full name of the deceased,
  • Date of death, and,
  • Place of death.

Documents:

You will need either photo identification or proof of legal claim for birth records.

Fees:

For the first certified copy of a birth certificate: $15.00. 
Additional copies: $8.00 each. 

For the first certified copy of a death certificate: $20.00
Additional copies: $12.00 each.

Marriage Records

Certified copies of marriage records for persons married in St. Clair County from 1763 to the present, are issued, maintained and, when appropriate, provided.  Such documents are often required to establish eligibility for certain services or benefits. 

Application:
Write or walk in.
Marriage Records - The bride's maiden name, groom's name, and date of marriage must be provided.

Fees:

For the first certified copy of a marriage record: $15.00.
Additional copies: $8.00 each.

Marriage Licenses

  • License must be obtained from County Clerk of County in which marriage is to be performed.
     
  • Applicants must have satisfactory proof that each party to the marriage will have obtained the age of 18 years at the time the license is effective or will have attained the age of 16 years and has the consent of both parents, his legal guardian, or judicial approval.
     
  • Parents or legal guardian or person(s) needing a consent must appear before the County Clerk where such minor person resides or before Notary Public and make affidavit that they are the parents or legal guardian of such minor person. Such consent shall list the names and dates of birth of both parties to the application of marriage. A consent for the marriage must have the signature of the County Clerk or Notary Seal and Signature or it will not be accepted.
     
  • Proof of age - Parenthood – Legal Guardianship must be furnished upon request.
     
  • Application for marriage license may be made to the County Clerk’s office between the hours of 9:00am to 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday.
     
  • Marriage license is effective one (1) day after it is issued. Marriage must be performed in the County in which the license was issued. License is VOID if not used within sixty (60) days.
     
  • Two (2) forms of identification are needed, one of which must be a picture identification (VALID Driver's License or State I.D., military I.D. or valid passport).
     
  • Blood tests are no longer required.
     
  • Fee for marriage license is $45.00.
     
  • If one or both applicants have been divorced in the past year, you must bring a copy of the divorce decree.

Civil Union Records

Certified copies of civil union records for persons united in St. Clair County, are issued, maintained and, when appropriate, provided.  Such documents are often required to establish eligibility for certain services or benefits. 

Application:

Fees:

For the first certified copy of a civil union record: $15.00.
Additional copies: $8.00 each.

Assumed Names Application Form

The “Certificate” and “Notice and Acknowledgment” forms will need to be completed and filed with the County Clerk along with a $20 filing fee.
The “Public Notice” will be filed with the locally circulated newspaper of your choice to fulfill publication requirements.
